Wee Princess Spelling is an educational game that enhances linguistic development in children (both verbal and written), as well as hones fine motor skills.
Linguistic development is enhanced in multiple ways; the goal of the game is to assemble the letters onscreen to construct a word, which helps children remember the letters. In addition, the words are spoken in the beginning and end of each level, so they learn the spoken word as well. Fine motor skills are also improved by having the child practice tapping on the specific letters they are looking for in order to collect them as they cascade down the screen.
The game is designed for children as young as two years old and entertaining through and above early grade school. The words in the game have been chosen in accordance with Common Core standards, and the levels range from ‘Kindergarten’ to ‘Third Grade’.
With each tap, the child receives feedback from the princess based on their action. The app verbally congratulates the child when they make the right word, or it encourages them to try again if they make a mistake.
The game gets progressively more difficult in each level as more and more letters need to be collected for more complex words, all while the letters cascade faster and faster down the screen.
There are 25 words in each grade level, which equals 125 teachable words in all.
